« Attractions Native American Earth Lodge

pictures disk 4 352What you see pictured is a re-creation of a Native American earth lodge. This facility provided the Native Americans who lived in this area about 800 years ago protection from the harsh Iowa winters. Inside the earth lodge were storage pits for crops grown and harvested during the summers. The lodges had about an 8-year lifetime and the one pictured was removed in the spring of 2014 due to mold inside it.
